Data Science for Business: Concepts and Techniques in R
Data Science is regularly ranked as one of the hottest professions and the demand for data practitioners is booming. Anyone wishing to maximise business potential within a competitive global trading environment is aware of data science, but why? Put simply, data can be used to inform decisions, optimise processes, and improve products and services across a very wide range of business activities. Data Science is a complex discipline, but the fundamental values that underpin the practice of data analytics are accessible and can bring effective added value to commercial organisations through training programmes.
In this workshop our goal is to demystify the application of data science and the out-dated notion of it being some type of alchemic wizardry. The content of the workshop is designed to inform and motivate. It will instruct you in the methods necessary for you to begin to use data and develop it as part of your everyday language. This will empower you to be more productive on a daily basis, as well as becoming a more effective communicator in an increasingly data dependent global village.
The workshop will introduce you to basic statistical concepts commonly used to build descriptive exploratory data processes and develop an indispensable understanding for data modelling. The learning programme will provide an overview of key concepts for creating an effective business data science project and will introduce tools and techniques for data wrangling, statistical modelling, visualisation and reproducible reporting. All of these will be created by using R, a public domain language for data analysis. Through a series of demonstrations and hands on exercises you will learn some of the foundational concepts of R and also get to know how to use the R tools needed in a typical data science project.
The workshop is designed for people who recognise or are beginning to realise the essential benefits within business, commercial and wider range of enterprises. It will benefit anyone who has the curiosity and desire to effectively make, critique and evaluate data-based decisions and claims, thereby wishing to take the first steps to enter and reveal the world of data science.
Prior experience is not required.
You might wish to bring your own laptop with the latest version of R and RStudio installed.
We hope you will join us!
The workshop will be delivered by Sister Analyst.
